Courant 2006 devrait apparaitre un nouveau film qui devrait nous plaire.
Il est présenté comme etant le meilleur film sur la première guerre mondiale.
Il devrait y avoir 6 Nieuport 17 (dont 4 ont été construits en 52 jours pour l'occasion!), mais aussi des Fokker dr1, Sopwith et pas mal d'autres.
Parmi les acteurs: Jean Reno et James Franco.
Il n'y a pas encore de bande annonce (le tournage est en cours en angleterre)
mais ça ne devrait pas tarder.

Je n'ai pas vu the blue max, mais les 2 autres valent le détour.
Un des buts du réalisateur est de limiter les scènes virtuelles au profit de scènes aériennes.
Et pour répondre à Sasai, je pense que non.

Bien reçu pour le blue max ou crépuscule des aigles en français.
Je viens de commander le DVD, on va bien voir ce que ça donne.
Si vous avez de bonne référence sur cette époque, ça m'interresse.

Du nouveau: le film a été projeté aux US à un public de pros du cinéma.
Il devrait sortir en novembre 2006 là bas, certainement début 2007 chez nous.

I'm the director of FLYBOYS and thought I'd set the record straight in a few instances, just to keep things from getting bogged down in speculation and misinformation....as well as clarifying a few matters.
1) The movie is finished.
2) It's coming out in October via MGM and we are continuing our independent approach by financing the P&A (prints and ads) ourselves. This means that we are, in effect, renting MGM's distribution facility and calling all the marketing and publicity shots ourselves. We financed the film completely independently, and - with our MGM deal - it appears that we will be the most ambitious (read: expensive and risky) film ever attempted. It will come as NO small surprise to most of you that WWI is of little interest to almost anyone who goes to movies and that WWI a/c are about as Model-T's - their terrestrial cousins - to watch in action. They are slow, small and unathletic.
3) Nevertheless, I think we've made them exciting. In fact, I think our aerial combat scenes are the most dynamic and realistic ever committed to film - which is how, unless you see FLYBOYS on a digital system (of which there are several hundred in the country so far) you will see it: projected on film, transferred from our digital material.
4) The inclusion of Eugene Bullard's character (inspired by him, not named after him) was not a P.C. decision; it was based on the fact that he was a fascinating, colorful, heroic and quite amazing American character who lived and fought in that period. I wanted to make as interesting and unfamiliar account of the war in the air as possible. The last movie to be made about American flyers in WWI was made 50 years ago and starred Tab Hunter; the other (3) movies worth noting were made over 75 years ago and they all starred a bunch of pretty white guys. As one of you have noted, this movie is not a documentary. However even documentaries are not "real"; they are written, shot and edited by a director from a specific point of view. My point of view, in FLYBOYS, is that, while the Escadrille has a fascinating history, there is more to the drama of Americans pilots in those years than just the lives of the original few. So what we have done is combine some of the qualities, experiences and characteristics of many men in order to create a story that stirs, excites and moves an audience - an audience which knows absolutely nothing about this subject - while honoring the reality of WWI.
5) Addressing the carping of those curmudgeons who disdain the idea of a "love story" or "romance" in a movie about WWI aviation: I would note only that books and the letters home of these young aviators - of which I have read dozens - are FILLED with romantic escapades. As William Wellman so accurately wrote in his aforementioned otherwise innacurate Tab Hunter disaster, the film LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE, "They wore French uniforms, they flew Fench aircraft, and they fell in love with French girls." Any movie that deleted this aspect of those years would be incomplete and innacurate as well as downright boring. Comon, guys....these were 21 year-olds. Maybe you don't remember, but soldiers (and even aviators!) in every war have had one major thing on their mind, and most of them had it more than on their mind. The Escadrille was no different; only they probably got luckier more often than most: aviators in their uniforms only had to walk down the street in France to get "romance" off their minds and into a more enjoyable part of their anatomy.
6) As I hope your little photo challenge from Bald Eagle proves, we used a lot of tricks in this film and I think you'll have a very, very hard time spotting any of them. That's what a film is: tricks you can't see. That's what they've always been, but we've got a lot more tricks (albeit a lot fewer airplanes) than Howard Hughes(HELL'S ANGELS), Bill Wellman (WINGS) or Howard Hawks (DAWN PATROL) ever had.
7) We have had only 4 screenings of the film; we didn't change a second of it after any of them because, to be quite honest, no one had any problems with the film; virtually everyone loved it: men and women, young and old. We haven't had to cater to anyone's instincts but our own: no studio, no audience, no pressure groups of any kind. I hope I don't sound smug, but I am very, very proud of this film. I've been a pilot since I was 14; I've been an aerobatic competitor; I've flown a lot of old a/c and I've been a student of WWI aviation for a long time. I don't have the slightest idea if the film will succeed or not with the millions of people that a $60,000,000 budget needs to attract (to say nothing of the P&A investment) but I know one thing: We made it honest and true. I'll rest my case on that.
