07, 2022 11:25 pm...

As a result of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, the German government wants to make a major national effort and massively increase defense spending. In the short term, a “Bundeswehr special fund” is to be equipped with 100 billion euros. In addition, as of now, more than two percent of German GDP is to be spent on defense every year, as Chancellor Olaf Scholz just announced in his government statement. In addition, the Chancellor wants to secure the special fund in the Basic Law and has asked for the support of all parties.
Scholz said that Germany wants to build new combat aircraft (FCAS) and tanks (MGCS) together with partners in Europe, primarily France. The Eurofighter will be further developed, the acquisition of the Heron drones with armament will be promoted and the Eurofighter will be enabled for electronic warfare, said the Chancellor. Scholz also said that the F-35 could be used as a carrier aircraft for nuclear sharing.
According to the Federal Chancellor, funds should also flow into the protection of critical infrastructure and the dependence on strategic raw materials should be reduced. He announced the construction of two LNG terminals in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel.
According to well-informed circles, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) was already working this weekend to draw up lists of how these funds can also be spent.
