It's a niche capability that doesn't get used in real life because it has limited applications, not because of the kind of work that's being done in OEF/OIF/OIR. There have been plenty of vehicles to track (moving or otherwise) and employ against, especially in the last few years with anti-ISIS ops. I have plenty of APG-73 time and I can tell you that I would not trust that radar identifying a semi truck from a mountain top. And beyond that it doesn't allow for any sort of identification of what you are attacking and it's doubtful that any reasonable ROE would allow that.
And as for your assertion that its a good "jumping off point" sensor for AG employment, I would argue the FLIR is still a better sensor for that because it gives SA to what you are actually looking at.
And no, my friend's uncle's friend didn't tell me this, I know it from using the aircraft in real life. Sorry dog, even in EXP3 the AG Radar is next to useless. It's not something that we are even trained to use if that gives any indication to its tactical applications. It should absolutely be in the game at some point because it's a thing in real life for whatever reason, but I wouldn't put it very high on the list of priorities.
Doctrine is built a certain way to leverage the best sensors available to get the mission done. The AG Radar modes are not that sensor. I've never heard of any strike fighter AG employment using the radar as a primary sensor, but I'm also ignorant of how Strike Eagles do their business so if you have sources I'd be all ears.
Second, you would never use a SAR map as a mode to find targets unless it was a building or something physically significant in which case you would use the FLIR anyway because it will be much easier to see vertical relief in a FLIR image. SAR maps can be used for OAPs, INS updates, and self contained approaches.
