Summary Combats and Casualties: 5 February 1941 (Air 16/1307). Twelve Blenheim IV were to be escorted by 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes from Flights Nos.601, 302, 610, 56 Squadrons: the bombers and No. 601Squadrons were late by 12 minutes for the planned rendezvous at 12.30 hrs: some squadrons therefore set-course before their arrival. In engagements, Escort Wing lost one aircraft. The Escort-Cover 24 Hurricanes Nos. 1, 615 Squadrons, failed to make rendezvous, and had an engagement with Me 109s over St. Omer with the loss 5 pilots. High-Cover and "Mopping-up" was by 35 Spitfires Nos. 41, 64, 611 Squadrons, which had combats in the St. Omer area having previously failed to make rendezvous: this group claimed 1-1-0 for the loss a Spitfire. Eight Spitfires No. 65 Squadron, having set-course without sight the bombers or escort, had individual combats with the loss two Spitfires for 1-0-0.

RAF 11 Group Intelligence Brief: 25. February 1941. Report on Roadstead I. At 12.00 a Spitfire 91 Squadron, on a Patrol, sighted a convoy of twelve ships sailing due east, and about 4 miles off the coast between Calais and Dunkirk. It was arranged for the dispatch of six Blenheim IV 59 Squadron (16 (GR) Group, Coastal Command) to attack this convoy. Thirty-five Hurricanes and Spitfires 1, 615, 303 Squadrons provided the Escort Wing: 36 Spitfires 54, 64, 611 Squadrons to High Offensive-Wing and 25 Spitfires and Hurricanes 19 and 310 Squadrons (Duxford) as the Support-Wing. Bombers made rendezvous over Canterbury, 4,000 feet, at 13.30, before proceeding to Ramsgate, thence to make landfall-in short of Gravelines at 7,000 feet. The force made a left-hand turn out to sea, then sighted the enemy convoy sailing one mile Dunkirk, and descended. Weather was 8-9/10 cloud at 6,000-7,000 feet. Force attacked, dropping 10 x 500-lb. S.A.P. and 4 x 250-lb. S.A.P. bombs, without damage being observed on the ships. High Offensive-Wing met 18 Me 109s to claim 3-1-0 for the loss of P/O Staney 611 Squadron. Two Spitfires sustained Cat.2 combat damage.

Hi Miguel,

Trop bien ton projet! :notworthy

Roadstead – dive bombing and low level attacks on enemy ships at sea or in harbour.
