I've been asking around on the ubi.com forums but I haven't gotten a straight answer. A guy by the name of FZG_Immel pointed me here, since some of you guys might actually have experience with the actual aircraft.
Every site I visit tells me that the Mirage 2000-5 is a multirole aircraft, capable of carrying not only A2A loadouts, but effective A2G ones as well, rockets, iron bombs, LGBs provided it carries a laser designation pod...
Yet in LOMAC it is A2A only, with the R 550, SR 250, and the MICAs AR and IR.
To further compound the confusion, the official lo-mac site lists the aircraft as the Mirage 2000C, while in the game it is the Mirage 2000-5. What, if any difference is there between these aircraft models?
You'll have to forgive my lack of French-speaking (writing?) ability. I live here in Canada, and Grade 10 was some time ago...

Ok so... Im'not a pro, but I can try to give an answer without too much stupidities !
The -5 is not multirole. But there is a version destinated to the Greek Air Force (Mirage 2000-5 Mk2, equivalent english for block I suppose). And this version is really mltirole. It can carry Apache, laser guided bombs etc...
Perhaps the -5 can loud some air to ground bombs. But I'm not sure.
[EDIT]
Oh yes, I forgot something. The 2000-5 is multicible (I don't know how to say in english, multitarget ?) So here may be an explanation ? multicible has benn confused with multirole ?

Hi
M2000-5 is really a multirole aircraft but French air force version called -5F is air to air only
Mirage 2000c radar = Thomson RDI is a single target able to launch semi active missile
2000-5 F has multi target radar and can fire active missile MICA EM

Maybe some response here, but anyway, specialists will soon flood your post with all the answers required.

Hmm...
So the Mirage 2000-5 is a multi-role aircraft, but the version used by the French Airforce, the 2000-5F, is air-to-air only?
Something I found
here.
The Mirage 2000-5 offers great possibilities for air-to-surface missions and can use all currently existing conventional weapons.
Furthermore, when fitted with a laser designation pod (TV/CT LDP), the Mirage 2000-5 can fire, both day and night, any laser-guided weapon with greatest accuracy.
Are only export versions truly multirole (A2A & A2G)?
It would be interesting to use the 2000-5 as a multirole aircraft in Lock On.
Edit: One more question.
Where are the 30mm DEFA cannon located on the 2000-5? Generally cannon are usually located in the wing roots, or the belly, but they seem to have hidden them well on this aircraft.

On the belly of the aircraft, just under the cockpit, as on nearly all the aircraft of the Mirage family.

Thanks for all the info, guys. It's much appreciated, as is anything else that you manage to dig up. I've been tearing my hair out trying to properly assess the capabilities of this aircraft. Everything I seem to find is very vague.
I've got a concurrent thread running the same topic over at the Lock On forums and you're all welcome to join in and add your input.
Mirage 2000-5 Thread
Once again, thanks for the help.
Edit: Updated link. Thread moved to Lock On Aviation Forum.

Thanks for the help, Immel!
I've been getting quite a bit of help on the topic back on the ubi forums, but I check back here to see if anyone's posted anything.
One site that I've found quite helpful is
this one. All sorts of information about the Mirage 2000 and its many, many variants. Credit goes to nicole10 for finding this one.
Thanks again!

In fact French 2000-5 could be able to do strikes or CAS, but it is a matter of software. As French Air Force have a specific version of the Mirage 2000 (called 2000D) for ground attacks, it uses only air to air capacities for this aircraft. But something is wrong with missiles in LOMAC : the 2000-5 doesn't use Super 530 and has no capacity to use the infrared version of the MICA (versions 2000-5 mk2 and 2000-9 can use it).

Are you absolutely sure about this last point ? I thought I had heard about the Mica IR starting operational use on FAF's Mirage 2000-5 in 2001 or 2002...
Sorry, I can't find where I read that, so I'm not completely sure. I'll check if I can find the information, if so I will tell you...

MICA IR is not available actually in FAF. But when it will arrive, it is sure that Mirage 2000-5 will be updated to use it. But without the helmet designator which is only for Rafale F2 and F3. It is not an important modification, just a little "patch". But I do not remember when the MICA IR will be delivered to the FAF.

The Topsight-E HMS is planed for the mirage 2000-5 too
BTW, I guess it will be integrated on rafale F3 and not F2.
Actually, I think AdA wants to replace the R550 as soon as possible in order to operate only 2 types of Air-air missiles by 2015 : mica EM/IR and meteor.
It would also be a good idea to integrate the mica IR on the mirage 2000 D and N to improve their defence capabilies...but there is no money for that retrofit for the time being. :(

Last time I saw information on the helmet mounted sight, it was cancelled for the Mirage. Maybee it has changed again

Let's just hope that Dassault does not make such a mess of patch release as Lock-On 1.01 was...
