Hi,

This is the registry fix that I have been working on over the weekend.
Below is the reg file for Win XP the attached files are for Win2K, the
notes below are for reference only.  I may have to make a small change
to the second registy file depending on the security updates on your
system, but as a rule this should work.  I have made it as easy as
possible, so you should not have any trouble, if you have any problems
please let me know.  The reg entries below are for reference only, so
please edit the attached files and insert into your registry. Your
VID/PID number is 131d/0155, you will find these in the attached reg.
files.

However it is important to back up your registry.  We have now
determined that the problem is in the registry on the host computer.

Here is how to get TrackIR to work under WindowsXP (with this pesky
USB-Device error).

I have also wrote this for the latest drivers, TrackIR v3.12.  These can
be downloaded from our website.  The whole procedure should take not
more than about 10 to 15 minutes :)

1. Install driver software from CD or from Download-File version TrackIR
v3.12.

########################################################################
################

2. Plug in TrackIR into the USB port you want. Windows will only detect
the "USB Device", go on and let it search automatically for the driver
and afterwards press finish (when the "could not find driver"-message)
appears.

Now you have the Address of the USB Device with TrackIR connected in
your registry

(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_131d&Pid_0155\
).

Search for it, there is now a sub-key with the "Name" of the USB-Port
where it is connected. For example: "5&19f90583&0&1" [if this is not the
only sub-key, you will have to delete all of them (right click and check
admin rights before you start) and then afterwards plug in TrackIR in
-one- port - then there is only one address.

########################################################################
################

3. Insert the following Registry key: (in this case the USB-Port is
"5&19f90583&0&1". If you allocate the "USB-Device"-Entry under a
different key, you must alter all "5&19f90583&0&1"-Strings below to the
entry you found.

5. Finally install this last registry entry (also just copy into a
....reg-file and install it):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11
CF-8056-444553540000}\0011]
"InfPath"="npusb3.inf"
"InfSection"="NPUSB"
"InfSectionExt"=".NT"
"ProviderName"="NaturalPoint"
"MatchingDeviceId"="usb\\vid_131d&pid_0155"
"DriverDesc"="NaturalPoint trackIR 3"
########################################################################
#################

Now, after a reboot (leave TrackIR in the same port) it should work. If
not, you will have to do all the entries also under "CurrentControlSet"
additionally to the already made "ControlSet001". (But this should
happen automatically during the reboot)

Please let me know if everything worked or if you have any problems.

About the security problem I have with registry edition or install
runtime from TrackIR, I forgot to specify that I'm using Win2000 + SP4
update + IE6 + IE6SP1 + High Encryption pack + all updates (last update
is from last week with GDI+ issue form Microsoft) : so my system is up
to date about security.

Hi,

The registry fix that I use is for WinXP. Win2K does not normally cause
this issue as the problem is with a permission/registry issue on the
host computer, with a result of the updates in XP.

After looking at your setupapi you posted on the forums I am going to
look at a registry fix for your machine. I will need to run some tests
in Virtual Machine to ensure that there will be no problems, with
editing certain key strings and values.
If you can give me a day or so to look at this, and I will have you up
and running in no time :)

Cheers
Wayne
