While at Farnborough as Chief Naval Test Pilot, Brown was involved in the deck landing trials of the Sea Mosquito, the heaviest aircraft yet chosen to be flown from a British carrier. Brown landed one for the first time on HMS Indefatigable on 25 March 1944. This was the first landing on a carrier by a twin-engined aircraft.[9] The fastest speed for deck landing was 86 kts, while the stall speed was 110 kts.

On 4 April, Brown added another "first" to his logbook when engaged in trials in relation to the flexible deck concept with HMS Pretoria Castle, in which he was supposed to make a number of landing approaches to the escort carrier in a Bell Airacobra, which had coincidentally been modified with a tail hook. During one of these passes, Brown declared an emergency and was given permission to make a deck landing; a ruse which had previously been agreed with the carrier's captain, Caspar John. Although the landing was achieved without difficulty, the long take off run required for the Airacobra meant that even with the ship steaming at full speed, there was little margin of error. This was the first carrier landing and take off for any aircraft with a tricycle undercarriage.[14]

Sans l'amoindrir, il faut néanmoins reconnaître que le premier bimoteur à apponter fut français !
Un Potez 565 - certes pas un avion de combat mais bimoteur quand même - apponta sur le Béarn en 1936.
Aie, ça me fait mal de l'avouer mais les Britanniques s'étaient fourvoyés à cette époque.
Ils connaissaient uniquement l'exploit des Américains qui avaient décollé leurs B-25 du USS Hornet pour aller bombarder Tokyo et pensaient être les premiers à apponter un bimoteur.

... il reste quand même bien des évènements à porter au crédit de ce pilote hors norme.
