DRONES ATTRITION

Un article du Washington Post tiré d'un rapport de l'armée américaine, et qui "recense" plus de 400 crash de drones divers et variés (Reaper, Predator...) depuis 2001. Causes multiples également et (heureusement ) pas de pertes humaines pour ceux qui se trouvaient sous cette mauvaise averse ... Ou pire comme dans le cas cité de la collision en vol avec un Hercules !

Question aux spécialistes (si tant est que les éléments de l'article permettent de répondre ...) : ça vous semble important comme attrition ?

This article does an okay job explaining some of the issues that the UAV community has. Having said that I will complete the picture a bit. One of things to point out that it is not fair to compare these aircraft to ones that will be used in the civil airspace in the future. I flew MQ-1’s for 4 years including a launch tour. First off, these airplanes were originally designed just to be an “Eye in the Sky.” At some point 2004 we figured out that we could put some rockets on them, or more accurately the Hellfire missile on them. One thing to point out these airplanes have flown in some real demanding environments from mountains in Afghanistan to some of the densest airspace of Iraq.

Because these were unmanned, we did push them right on the edge envelope. They fly 2 to 3 times longer than their manned counterparts. We did operate them in weather that generally we would not put a manned plane in. There were many times when I thought, I was going to lose one in some bad weather but I lucky and got it out okay. Some of my counterparts were not so lucky. Like any system mishaps occur either due to mechanical failures, lack of training or complacency. At the end of the day a commercial operation will not require aircraft like these to fly under the stringent conditions and that is something important to point out. For commercial operations systems training and emergency procedures will be cornerstone over any other function of the aircraft. I think there is no better time than now to bring in a commercial arena, because of what we learned in over a decade of flying these in some of the most challenging environments you could put them through their paces. We now have a large cadre of competent pilots that have been doing this for a long time.

Arrêtons de former les pilotes de drone comme des techniciens ... et donnons leur une vrai formation de pilote .... je pense qu'on évitera pas mal de problème.
Ca c'est pour moi la première raison.

La seconde, c'est ce qu'on constate aussi dans nos simulateurs : la personne n'étant pas vraiement dans l'avion, elle va prendre un peu plus de risque, voir tenter des choses qu'elle n'aurait pas fait sinon .... et là aussi, à jouer avec le feu, on se brule.

400 accidents c'est beaucoup oui, surtout que la moitié (192) se solde par la perte de l'appareil (ou des réparations dont le coup dépasse le prix d'achat).
